The Collective is a grouping of international artistry; housed and fostered under one roof in Los Angeles. The ambitions of which are to embody a living collective consciousness. One reflective of modernism; indicative of the of the humane ideals we wish to expand upon socially and express within various mediums of the arts. We aim to curate a culture of creatives who all share the belief that one should create art not as a means to an end; but rather out of a desire to elicit that of the profound. The format of this idea is inspired from the social traditions of great thinkers that have all left behind their marks. Following the structural integrity of groups like Château of Cloux–the home of Leonardo Di Vinci; and countless other painters all individually progressing in their craft, drawing awareness to how an oil painting can tell a story without a single word. How a piece of literature can overwhelm your senses, placing you in a visual world provocative of innovation and critical thought. Perhaps what impacted their individual attributes most significantly were the challenges that came from continual exposure to the work of their peers. We must consider the legendary Antwerp Six; a group including souls like Martin Margiela, Dries Van Noten, Ann Demeulemeester, Walter Van Beirendonck who are arguably considered the pinnacle of not only success in the fashion world, but most notably drawing significance to the process in creating true artwork–and perhaps more notably, the act of disrupting it. These groupings of extraordinary individuals can be seen throughout history and have achieved such legendary success for these reasons. An acute presence of motivation rooted in competition from peers, A willingness to collaborate on greater ideology, and the maintenance of integral association and continued support through surpassing the ‘individuals’ potential, by navigating as a group.
Yet, very rarely do we hear about a group of individuals whose expanse reaches every corner of expression. Very rarely do we hear about a MODERN DAY ring of painters, poets, sculptors, film makers, actors, music producers, tattoo artists, draughtsman, and wildly innovative humans from around the world who come together–not only to progress in their given medium, but to offer tribute to the evolution of art, and therefore, life. Many artists talk about how much an actor or a film has influenced their painting, or how much a painting has influenced their album. The undercurrent of this concept is the fact that we as the makers of art conform to a single domain–usually confined to the approval and understanding of societal norms. Yet the root of every monumental work of art strikes the same cords, the same pains, the same truths. Subject matter can be analyzed in endless forms. The Collective’s soul purpose is to submerse the artist within a domain of mediums that both oppose and concur with their natural ability to express. While also providing them with the right resources often out of reach for the individual artist in today’s society. As a collective, we draw more attention, provide more exposure, and reach more people with our makings. We emulate strength as a whole working conscious. We curate the right space to safely question, inquire, investigate and elaborate on all matters of subject. We aim to give complete freedom to focus on the story the artist desires to tell, while disrupting their normal habitual patterns limited by one medium, limited by a career of solitude. All of the artists in The Collective are not expected to meet a standard, but challenged to break them. With this group of highly vetted makers, the goal is to create a movement that influences future generations just as we have all been guided by the giants whose shoulders we stand upon. To break molds, without compromising our humanity in the name of artistry. We want to facilitate the continued discovery of what it means to be a painter, a musician, a writer, an actor; an artist. To not simply admire the arts, but to support them fully. To live them collectively.
